A noite foi de muitas vitórias para o Daft Punk, que foi o grande vencedor da 56; edição do Grammy Awards, na noite de domingo (26). O duo francês faturou cinco categorias, incluindo ;Álbum do ano; e ;Single do ano;. Eles levaram ainda prêmios por ;Melhor performance pop de duo ou dupla;, ;Melhor álbum de dance/eletrônica; e ;Álbum com melhor engenharia de som;.
Outro destaque foi a dupla Macklemore & Lewis, que conquistou quatro prêmios, três deles antes mesmo da cerimônia oficial: ;Artista revelação;, ;Melhor álbum de rap;, ;Melhor canção de rap; e ;Melhor performance de rap;. O cantor Justin Timberlake saiu com três prêmios, e Lorde, com dois, incluindo o de ;Canção do ano;, por ;Royals;.
União histórica
Um dos momentos mais emocionantes da cerimônia foi a reunião de Ringo Starr e Paul McCartney. O último encontro entre os músicos tinha acontecido em 2009, durante evento beneficente para a Fundação David Lynch. Paul sentou-se no característico piano colorido para apresentar a canção "Queenie Eye", de seu novo disco solo, "New". Ringo acompanhou na bateria. Contrariando as expectativas, os músicos não tocaram nenhuma canção dos Beatles.
